National Police Remembrance Day
A solemn day for the men and women in BLUE.. it’s POLICE REMEMBRANCE DAY.. with a service to be held at the Kawana Waters Surf Lifesaving Club later this morning.
It’s particularly raw this year.. with the recent death of senior constable BRETT FORTE.. shot dead in the LOCKYER VALLEY in MAY.
And a new beer will be launched today at ‘Chances’ in Mooloolaba…with $50 from every keg sold going to Blue Hope…to promote mental health awareness and support within the force.
The new beer is in honour of the late Sunshine Coast Detective Russell Sheehan.
CMF kicks off
B-Y-O bottle if you’re heading to the Caloundra Music Festival.
It kicks off today with major artists set to perform including Ronan Keating, Grinspoon, Killing Heidi and Wolfmother.
The festival site will have water bottle re-fill stations, and it’s going cashless…with all ticket holders to get a tap-n-go wrist band that can be pre-loaded with funds.
Hinterland drug bust
A 30-year old NINDERRY man is due to front court today- charged with possession and production of a dangerous drug.
Police raided his property on Thursday, allegedly finding a quantity of amphetamine… equipment used to make drugs, a rifle and ammunition.
It will be alleged the accused had used the equipment to make the drug speed.
Detectives say the raid came after three months of investigations.
The issue with algae
The Noosa Council is working hard to make sure the popular MAIN BEACH continues to look its best for tourists, despite lots of algae being washed ashore.
The non-toxic seaweed isn’t dangerous to humans, but it’s a bit stinky…with council officers using heavy machinery on the beach each morning to clear the muck.
The algae bloom is common in hot, dry weather combined with strong northerly winds.
