Funeral to honour Dean Mercer
A colourful crowd will gather to mourn the loss of an IRONMAN LEGEND on the Gold Coast today..
Family and friends will say their final goodbyes to DEAN MERCER at noon — with up to 2000 people expected to pay their respects..
DEAN’s wife REEN wants the popular member of the SURF LIFE SAVING COMMUNITY to be farewelled in style — encouraging surf club members to bring their club flags — banners — boardies and caps.
Dean was a former member of both Maroochydore and Mooloolaba Surf Lifesaving clubs.
There are suggestions that buried roof sheeting containing asbestos at the Lend Lease Sunshine Plaza expansion site- may have been dumped and buried years ago.
The toxic substance was discovered by workers early Wednesday morning at three of the plaza’s 30 construction sites….with the CFMEU immediately shutting work down.
As many as 50 construction workers have now filled out asbestos exposure forms.
The materials are now being removed by a specialist contractor.

Crime is on the UP at PEREGIAN at the moment.
Police are urging residents- especially those in the SPRINGS and BREEZES estates to ensure they keep their homes and vehicles secure…even if you’re home at the time.
It’s after three consecutive burglaries happened in close proximity to each other on Wednesday.
The break-ins happened in Bellerive Avenue, Eagleford Court and Pelican Court.
