Council urges motorists to stay off roads amid flash flooding risk

With heavy rain on the Sunshine Coast expected to continue into this evening and flash flooding on our roads an increasing possibility, motorists are being urged to avoid all unnecessary travel.

Acting Local Disaster Coordinator Bill Haddrill said Sunshine Coast Council was working closely with other agencies to monitor the weather situation.

“The ongoing rain means flash flooding is a real possibility today so our first preference is for people to stay off the roads altogether,” Mr Haddrill said.

“If travel is absolutely necessary, please drive carefully and to the conditions.

“Most importantly, remember to never drive through flood waters – if it’s flooded, forget it.”

Visit council’s Disaster Hub at www.disaster.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au for road closures and all the information you need to be prepared before, during and after severe weather.
