Will arming teachers stop school massacres?

Is it just me or does everyone wonder if a whole country can have cognitive dissonance?
That is, two thoughts duelling in one brain.
Thought one: I want my kids to be safe at school.
Thought two: I believe all Americans have a right to bear arms.

In Japan it is illegal to possess, carry, sell or buy hand guns or rifles. In 2010 Japan had zero gun related deaths, either suicide or homicide. Australia had 232 deaths. America lost 31,518 people. They are the most recent statistics I could find.

On the day of the Florida school shooting last week, already 1800 people had been shot to death in America this year.
Yesterday, in the face of crying teenagers who had hidden in a cupboard for four hours, while a former classmate killed 17 fellow students and teachers, President Trump suggested buying more guns.

He floated the idea of arming school teachers with concealed weapons.
Arming teachers would be like putting a target on their back. Who is the shooter going to aim for first?

My sister is a teacher and I am pretty sure she would die before she would put a bullet in a student, even one holding a gun.

Also on the subject of my sister, how many hours training are they planning to give these teachers?
Surely, shooting a piece of paper at a gun club is nothing like shooting an armed moving target you used to teach, who is pointing a semiautomatic weapon at you, possibly while you hide in the dark surrounded by children clinging to you for comfort?

I read yesterday highly trained police officers hit their target less than 40% of the time in a live firefight, what is the kill rate of Home Ec teachers?
And if by some miracle my sister did kill a child holding or gun, or more likely, a terrified innocent who got in the way, I promise you she would never recover.
Police officers who shoot people on the job suffer terrible PTSD. My sister is a fifty year old English teacher. She’s never even hit a kid with a book.
The gun lobby’s mantra is “we need more good guys with guns” but that is because they like selling guns. America makes up less than five per cent of the world’s population, they currently hold more than fifty per cent of the world’s privately owned firearms.

Even those who speak of gun control are soft. They talk about background checks and gun modifications, but John Howard’s highly successful gun buy back scheme would never be considered.
History tells us that America will talk gun control for the next two weeks and move on. And soon enough, there will be another mass shooting at another high school. .
